Gators Just Trying To Put It All Together
Land O' Lakes has cruised to two victories in as many games this season, and the Gators have noticed some bright spots as well as some areas in to improve. "In spurts, we had some great things, and other spurts we didn't look so good," Land O" Lakes coach Laurie Pacholke said. "There's still a lot of things to work on, but overall I think our ball movement is really strong right now. We were missing a lot of open shots, but again, in spurts we looked really, really good and in others you can tell it's early in the season." The Gators were without Brittany Knipp on Wednesday against Pasco because she had a softball commitment. Knipp signed a scholarship earlier that day to play softball at Stetson University. "Defensively, we were missing Brittany in the backcourt, so that hurt us a little bit on defense," Pacholke said.
The New England Journal of Medicine Publishes First Clinical Results for MedImmune's Chitinase-like Protein YKL-40 in ...
GAITHERSBURG, Md. (Map) - GAITHERSBURG, Md., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- MedImmune, Inc. today announced the publication of the first clinical results studying chitinase-like protein, YKL-40, suggesting that the molecule may play an important role in determining the mechanisms of severe asthma. Data to be published in the November 15, 2007 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine suggest that circulating serum levels of YKL-40, also known as HcGP-39, are increased in patients with asthma, compared to those without disease, and correlate with asthma severity. Supplementing preclinical evidence demonstrating that chitinases play a critical role in asthma, these data suggest that YKL-40 may serve as a potential new biomarker for disease severity, prompting further clinical study. "This study represents the collaborative efforts between MedImmune researchers and other leaders in the field of respiratory illness to explore novel biologic pathways to disease," said Anthony Coyle, Ph.D., vice president, respiratory, inflammation and autoimmune disease research.
FEMA: Decreasing Temperatures, Increasing Flood Risks for Western Residents
Winter brings more than just cold temperatures. It also brings an increased flood risk and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is warning residents of Idaho to prepare now -- well ahead of rising waters. This year, predictions for La Nina call for an even wetter-than-average 2007-2008 winter season in parts of the Northwestern United States, including California, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Montana. The time to prepare for this year's rainy season and possible flooding is now. "Recovering after a flood can be overwhelming. With flood insurance, you have the financial support to get back on your feet as quickly as possible," said David Maurstad, assistant administrator of mitigation and federal insurance administrator for FEMA. "Too often, people mistakenly think flood damage is covered by a homeowners policy.
