Aeolus Pharmaceuticals' AEOL 10150 Protects Lungs Against Mustard Gas
Aeolus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (OTCBB:AOLS), announced that researchers from National Jewish Medical & Research Center have reported that Aeolus' lead compound, AEOL 10150 showed statistically significant protection of lung tissue in animals exposed to 2-chloroethyl-ethylsulfide (CEES; half-mustard). In a study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health ("NIH") CounterACT program, AEOL 10150 was tested along with 19 other compounds to determine effectiveness in protecting lung tissue against edema and hemorrhage resulting from exposure to mustard gas. AEOL 10150 was given to rats one hour after CEES exposure and again 6 hours later. Eighteen hours after exposure, lung edema and hemorrhage was assessed by changes in the bronchoalveolar lavage protein and red blood cell levels.
Salmond: Scotland independent in 10 years
ALEX Salmond has, for the first time, named a date by which he believes Scotland will be an independent country - 2017. The First Minister made the dramatic assertion on the eve of the SNP's first budget in government, a day in which the party will set out its spending priorities over the next three years. In a remarkable departure from his previous reluctance to set a timetable for achieving sovereignty, Mr Salmond yesterday said he anticipated Scotland would break away from the United Kingdom in a decade. The First Minister made the declaration, which was immediately attacked by political opponents, as he launched the Scottish Government's economic strategy, setting out ambitious targets for a decade of growth. .

Winehouse Tour Manager Quits Over Health Fears
AMY WINEHOUSE's tour manager has quit amid claims the troubled star was ruining his health. Thom Stone is alleged to have found traces of heroin in his system, after passively inhaling fumes claimed to be from the singer and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil's drug use. Last month (Oct07) Stone presented Winehouse with a doctor's note outlining that the pressures of managing the singer was harming his health. A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "He was constantly bailing her out. He was watching them get off their head on drugs and wondering whether Amy was even going to get up on stage. It was a nightmare job." A friend of the couple says, "When he produced this note Blake and Amy thought it was a joke. They didn't get on with Thom and were taking the p**s when he tried to pull that excuse to leave.
Ethanol plant builder unfazed by site hazards
The $100 million ethanol distillery proposed for Conoy Township would be built atop an area laced with sinkholes, dissolving rock, vertical cracks and possibly a deep cave, experts have found. But while opponents hope such findings will help sink the project, the chief engineer who performed the work, Lancaster Biofuels officials and the owners of the incinerator next door say it's neither surprising nor a big deal. "I've built ethanol tanks in 10 states. I really don't see this as a poor site. I'd say it's an average site," said Joseph Waxse, the principal engineer who oversaw a detailed underground probe of the site in 2004. Waxse and others say a base of dissolving limestone is not unusual in this part of the country, and there are engineering techniques to safely compensate for such undesirable conditions.
